Ask Digby - From "Ocean of Tears"

Hi Digby,
I just moved to Vancouver and ever since I've been here I've had bad luck, what should I do to get rid of it?
- ocean of tears

Hello!

Thank you for writing to me. I'm glad that you can trust me with your happiness and I promise that if you give me a butt scratch we can be good friends. That was a given though, so let's move onto the advice.

I don't know much about Canada, but here's what I do know:

There are lots of animals there - like moose (I watched a show on Animal Planet when the humans were at work and a man said there was a moose in his house) and something called a Sasquatch, which I also saw on Animal Planet. That one was funny looking - it looked just like one of my humans in the morning. One thing I did notice was that the man with the moose seemed very upset that it was in his house because it hurt him, and that Sasquatch thing looked kind of scary, so I really hope they aren't behind your bad luck.

There is something else that I know about Canada though - bacon and maple syrup. Yum! How you can be unhappy in a country that has such delicious post-pork is incomprehensible but I'll try to get my head around it.

Do you have friends in your new home? Friends can help in any situation. I have tonnes of friends - but my favourites are Manny and Bambi. When they are around my luck is varied. Sometimes, for example, I find a really fun stick and get to play with it. Other times, Bambi takes it from me - but that's okay, because my friends are there to take my mind off it (even though they took my stick from me in the first place).

I think what you need to do is find something you like about Canada - even if it's not bacon. The way I see it is that there is no luck in bacon. Bacon happens because I want it to - because I sit, lie down or roll over when I'm told. You need to make your own luck to get what you want but remember, bacon doesn't happen every time you sit. Be optimistic and eventually you'll get what you want. If that doesn't work, though, and you find yourself crying in bed at night just remember that my glorious face is only an arms reach away (presuming you keep your phone on you at all times, my people seem to so to me that's the norm).

Write to me again soon and let me know how you get on.

Paws truly

Digby
